Book Review 2019

The Kai Truck -TE RAU AROHA
Author: Aunty Bea-Piatanihi     Illustrator:Jui Yateo

The Kai Truck -TE RAU AROHA takes place in
World War Two but the truck is made in New Zealand. France and New Zealand are the two places that are mentioned in the book.
This book is about the adventures that the driver of the truck went on.
The truck has been shot by planes well it was driving
through the desert and it was captured by the Germans but the soldiers
they got the truck back. And eventually the truck got sent back to
New Zealand to visit all the Native Schools.
This book has a lot of paragraphs because it is a true story so it needs
to be long. There is an English version and a Māori version because
this story has a Māori version because it talks about a Māori batallion.
The Kai Truck -TE RAU AROHA used direct speech, alliteration e.g.
“rough, rocky” and imagery.
Te Rau Aroha is about a truck and although a truck usually doesn't
have traits, the book says,“Our truck is a YMCA fighting vehicle,
truly a treasure, he is a fighter, he is ours...”
The Kai Truck -TE RAU AROHA also talks about
the soldier warriors, it says “our strong, handsome
and clever warriors...”

No one in my group but me has a book about something
that actually happened. I think the book is exciting because
when something happens it makes me want to keep reading.
The Kai Truck is about war and I like stuff about war.
I recommend this book for Years 6 to 8 students because
the book is about war.
